Abstract:

Background: MR imaging is one of the best diagnostic modalities in medicine. During an MR imaging examination, three types of field are employed to produce images. Various experimental studies have been performed about the effects of each single type of field but only few studies are available on their combination to generate MR imaging. The main objective of this research work is to study the effects of MR imaging on the level of glucose and cortisol hormone. Methods: 40 adult male Wistar rats (220 ± 10 g) were randomly divided into 2 groups of exposed (20) and control (20) groups. They were exposed under diagnostic MR imaging of 1.5 T field strengths for 25 minutes. Then, immediately blood samples were isolated and level of serum glucose measured by Auto-analyzer and cortisol content of blood sera was assayed by radioimmunoassay (RIA).Results: Findings showed significant decreases in the levels of glucose and cortisol hormone after 25 minutes of exposure. Conclusion: MR imaging may have adverse effects on the level of glucose and cortisol hormone.

Hepatic Oxidative Damages and Glucose Tolerance in Diabetic Rats Exposed to Repeated Oral Doses of Diazinon

Background: Environmental pollutants including organophosphate insecticides impair glucose metabolism by altering hepatic oxidation and play an important role in the development of diabetes and its complications. The aim of this study was to assess the impacts of repeated oral doses of Diazinon, an organophosphate insecticide, which is known to impair the glucose metabolism and its tolerance th...

Effects of ganoderma lucidum and melatonin on sperm in rats exposed to electromagnetic field

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the electromagnetic field (EMF) generated by 10 kV (50 Hz) high voltage line on the epididymal sperm characteristics and the protective effects of ganoderma lucidum (GL) and melatonin (M) in EMF exposed male rats. Materials and Methods: In this study, 64 Wistar rats were divided into 8 groups (n= 8). Rats in 26-day and 52-day ex...

Histopathological Changes of Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Ovaries Exposed to Sub-lethal Concentrations of Methyl Paraben

Paraben compounds are used widely as preservatives to inhibit microbial growth and extend used in pharmaceuticals, hygienic, cosmetics, care products. They pose the potential for reproductive toxicity for users. This paper provides an overview of the applications of histopathological biomarkers in reproductive toxicity in zebrafish caused by methylparaben. The present study investigated the cha...

the role of russia in transmission of energy from central asia and caucuses to european union
